The Market, Mapped: A 15-Month Heatmap and the PokeTrack Index

Everyone has a theory about which Pokémon sets are going up. Almost nobody has the data. Insights now has three new views built on 15 months of nightly price snapshots across 174 sets — a heatmap, an index, and a one-line read of what the market just did.

The heatmap

Every set, every month, 15 months back — one grid. Green months, red months, grouped by era from Base Set through Mega Evolution. Each cell is the median card in that set, so one Charizard cannot drag a whole row; a set only counts a month if enough of its cards were priced at both ends.

The PokeTrack Index

The median card, indexed to 100. Track the whole market or compare eras against each other on one chart, over 3 months, 6 months, a year, or the full run. Tap any era to open it and watch its individual sets diverge.

What the data actually says

Over the last 12 months the whole market is up 53%. POP-era cards are up 170%, E-Card 125%, EX 105%. Scarlet & Violet is up 23%. Vintage roughly tripled the broad market’s return, and the newest sets lagged it by more than half — which is the opposite of where most of the attention goes.

Newly released sets are marked, not hidden

A set’s first two months after release are outlined and left out of the colour scale. New sets reliably fall 60–80% from launch pricing as supply floods in — that is real, but it is a different phenomenon from a mature set moving, and letting it drive the colours would flatten everything else. The number is still shown. We would rather mark it than quietly drop it.

Descriptive, not predictive

These views describe what already happened. They are not forecasts and they are not advice. Every cell shows its actual number, so the colours are a convenience rather than the claim.

Free and Pro

The heatmap is free for every account across all 174 sets with 6 months of history; Pro extends it to the full 15. The index and market overview are free.

FAQ
Are Pokémon cards going up in value?

Over the 12 months to August 2026, the median Pokémon card tracked by PokeTrack is up about 53%. That figure varies enormously by era — POP-era cards are up around 170% while Scarlet & Violet is up about 23%.

Which Pokémon sets are going up the most?

Vintage has led by a wide margin over the past year: POP, E-Card, HeartGold & SoulSilver and EX-era sets have all roughly doubled or better, against about 53% for the market as a whole. The heatmap in Insights shows every set month by month so you can see exactly when each one moved.

What is the PokeTrack Index?

It tracks the median card in a group — the whole market, an era, or a single set — indexed to 100 at the start of whatever window you pick. Using the median rather than the total means one very expensive card cannot distort the line.

Why did a newly released set fall so much?

Sets typically drop 60–80% from launch prices in their first two months as supply catches up with preorder demand. Those months are outlined on the heatmap and excluded from the colour scale so they do not distort every other set.

Is the market heatmap free?

Yes. Every account sees all 174 sets with 6 months of history. Pro extends the same heatmap to the full 15 months.
